Juncker delivers State of Union and 'letter of intent'
The Commission has published a ‘Letter of intent’ to go along with President Jean-Claude Juncker’s State of the Union address on Wednesday (13 September). The letter goes through the EU executive’s intentions for its work programme for the next 16 months, outlining possible legislative initiatives, including on the digital single market. The document, addressed to European Parliament Antonio Tajani and Estonian President Juri Ratas, outlines a data package which aims to ensure the free flow of non-personal data within Europe (including a legislative proposal published along with the speech) and an initiative on online platforms. It also calls on the swift adoption by the Parliament and the Council of the all 14 legislative proposals on which discussions are currently ongoing aimed at completing the digital single market, including the telecoms package, the copyright package, geo-blocking, AVMSD and e-privacy.
